Water Atlas Partnership

What does it mean to be a Partner?

Individual atlases are supported financially by local governments (cities and counties), regional agencies (planning councils and water management districts, for example), and state and federal agencies. Each new atlas is created via the execution of an initial development agreement customized for its sponsor(s), specifying those data sets, topics and features that are of particular interest.

Site maintenance, upgrades, and content additions for each Water Atlas are sustained by annual or biennial follow-on contracts. To the greatest extent possible, when technological improvements and enhancements are introduced on one Atlas, they are eventually implemented on other atlases as well, so that all partners benefit from new capabilities as they are developed.

Water Atlas faculty and staff keep in constant contact with Partners to address any questions or concerns that may arise, both from site users and internally from the Partners' organizations. An annual Partners meeting brings together current and prospective Partners for progress updates, site enhancement planning, and brainstorming about potential atlas uses and marketing opportunities.

In addition to the Water Atlas sites themselves, the USF Water Institute often collaborates with Partner organizations on other grant-funded projects that further the common goal of promoting good water resource stewardship.
